Trump is considering a ‘ground operation’ in the drug war, warning

Washington, October 16, 2025: Former US President Donald Trump has once again announced a tough stance against drug cartels. He said at a news conference on Wednesday that after success at sea, the United States is now looking to launch a “land operation.” Trump said, “Their boats may be fast, but they’re not faster than missiles.”

Trump said that in recent years, drug cartels have been unable to smuggle drugs by sea thanks to US naval and air strikes. “We have taken complete control of the sea,” he claimed. “There have been times when there was not a single boat to be found at sea.”

Since September, the United States has launched missile strikes on at least five ships that the Trump administration claims were carrying drugs. Trump said, “We’ve been trying to catch them for 30 years with the Coast Guard, but they’re not as fast as missiles.”

Trump also confirmed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is already conducting covert operations inside Venezuela. He claimed that a large amount of drugs are entering the United States from this region. Although he did not reveal details of the operation, he indicated that a “ground-based attack” could be carried out inside Venezuela or another country in the future.

The plan has raised concerns in international diplomatic circles, with experts saying a military attack on the soil of an independent country could pose a major challenge to international law and diplomatic balance.
